Troubleshooting
Most problems come down to the Live script, the Control Surface, or which clip is chosen. Start here.
It says Not linked to Live
Check that TranceToolsReshape is chosen as a Control Surface in Live > Settings > Tempo & MIDI. If it isn't in the list, click Install the Live script in Reshape and restart Live.
It says to restart Live
After you install or update Reshape, Live may still be running the older copy of its script. Restart Live to load the new one. If it says the app has an updated Live script, click Install the Live script first, then restart Live.
No clip is showing
- Click a MIDI clip in Live's Session View (a lead, an arp or a bass), or choose one above. Reshape is following Live's selected clip and nothing is selected, or it isn't a MIDI clip.
- This clip has no notes yet. Add some in Live.
- That clip isn't there any more. It was deleted or moved in Live: choose another.
- A drum clip isn't listed: Reshape is for leads, basses and arps.
In harmony with says nothing to follow
Reshape couldn't find chords for those bars, in the other clips in the scene or in the clip's own low notes. Put a chord or pad clip in the same scene (row) of Session View, and Reshape follows it.
It's in the wrong key
Check the key box. Set the clip's scale in Live 12, or Live's scale for the set, and Reshape uses it, as long as it fits the notes. See The key.
There are leftover notes from an earlier change
Press Cmd+Z in Live to undo the change, or delete the notes in Live. Back to original only knows the clip as it was when Reshape first read it, so it can't remove notes you've added in Live since.
My picks disappeared
If the clip is changed in Live, Reshape clears its picks and says so, because the notes they pointed to may have moved. Pick them again.
Use Live's selection didn't pick anything
Open the clip in Live's note editor and select some notes there first. With nothing selected, it says No notes selected in Live's note editor.
The notes change in Reshape but not in Live
Without a licence, changes are shown in Reshape only: the pill says not in Live. Activate to send them. With a licence, check the status line for a message from Live, and that the clip is still there.
Questions
Is it random?
No. Reshape composes to rules: phrase by phrase, chord notes on the beat, endings that land, and several versions of each take scored for how musical they are. The same clip, step and take always give the same notes.
Does it change velocity or timing?
It never changes velocity. From Noticeable up, a lead can gain or lose a note on the grid the clip already uses; otherwise the rhythm stays.
Can I use it on drums or chords?
It's made for leads, basses and arps. Drum tracks aren't listed, and chord clips are what it follows.
Does it work with Bitwig, Logic or FL Studio?
No. Reshape works through a Live script, with Ableton Live 12 or later.
