The TranceTools beta is open, and it now works with Ableton Live
The free Mac app beta is open for signups, and it now works with Ableton Live as well as Bitwig Studio.
The TranceTools Mac app beta is open, and it's free. There's also a second DAW: alongside Bitwig Studio, TranceTools now works with Ableton Live.
What it does in Live
Everything you can do with Bitwig, you can now do in Live:
- Preview on your own synths. Pick a Live MIDI track for each part (chords, bass, arp and lead) and hear the idea on the instruments already in your set as you roll it. When you stop, every track goes back exactly as it was.
- Drag it straight in. Drop any part, or all four, onto a track as a plain MIDI clip.
- Follows Live's tempo. The app shows that it's linked, how many tracks it can see and the BPM.
It's a small script, not a plugin, so it works in Live Intro, Standard and Suite, with nothing added to your device chain. We've tested it with Live 12.
Setting it up in Live
- Open TranceTools. It installs its Live script for you. If macOS asks for access to your Music folder, click Allow.
- Restart Live.
- In Live's Settings > Tempo & MIDI, set a Control Surface to TranceTools, with its Input and Output also set to TranceTools.
- In TranceTools, pick a track for each part and press Preview.
Get it now
Live support has been in the beta since version 0.3.0, so it's there from your first download. The app updates itself from then on.
The beta is Mac only for now (macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon or Intel). A Windows version is planned.
Free during the beta
TranceTools is free while it's in beta. After that it'll be a one-off £29, with no subscription. Beta testers will get it for less, and anyone who sends useful feedback gets it free. So try it, break it, and tell us what you think: just reply to the email with your product key.
