DJ Set Planner

Drop in the tracks for your next set. Get every track's BPM, key and Camelot code, then let the planner order them so each mix is in key, the tempo moves gently and the energy builds. Nothing is uploaded.

Harmonic mixing in a nutshell

Two tracks in compatible keys can play over each other without their basslines and melodies clashing. The Camelot wheel makes that easy: every key gets a number from 1 to 12 and a letter, A for minor and B for major. A track mixes cleanly into another with the same code, a number one step either side (8A to 7A or 9A), or the same number with the other letter (8A to 8B, its relative major). Jumping two steps (8A to 10A) is an "energy boost" that works for short blends.

Tempo matters too. Most DJs keep each change within about 3%, so the pitch shift isn't obvious. Trance sets often start around 132 to 136 BPM and climb to 138 to 140 at peak time.

How the planner orders a set

Smoothest mixes looks for the order where every transition is as compatible as possible in key and tempo. Build the energy does the same but prefers to save the loudest, busiest tracks for later. My order leaves the list as you arranged it and just rates each transition. You can drag tracks or use the arrows to fine-tune, and fix any key or tempo the analysis got wrong.

Questions

How accurate are the BPM and key?

Tempo is right for nearly all four-to-the-floor tracks. Key detection gets most dance tracks right, but it can pick the relative major or minor (8A instead of 8B, say), which still mixes perfectly. If one looks wrong, change it in the list.

What is "energy"?

A rough guide from how loud and how busy each track is, ranked within your set from 1 to 10. It's useful for shaping a set, but trust your ears for the final order.

Will the tracklist work in Rekordbox or Serato?

The export includes an M3U playlist with the file names in order. Keep it in the same folder as the tracks and import it as a playlist. There's also a plain text tracklist with BPM, key and Camelot codes.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Each file is decoded and analysed in your browser. Only the results (names, BPM, keys) are kept, in this browser, so your set is still here next time.
